The fourth volume of the Critical Hybrid Edition brings a new academic and readers' edition of the poem Máj by Karel Hynek Mácha (1810-1836). Since its first publication (1836), Máj has appeared in hundreds of editions, including many translations. However, after almost sixty years, this edition offers a complex presentation of all the sources and a review of previous editorial approaches. It relies on literary, chemical, and textological research on the only surviving complete manuscript of May, which was not available in the original to previous generations of editors. The bonus DVD includes new facsimiles of this manuscript as well as all other relevant textual sources, and a substantially revised inventory of all printed editions of the poem. - The critical hybrid edition of Karel Hynek Mácha's May was produced by the Institute for Czech Literature of the CAS in cooperation with the Memorial of National Literature in Prague and with the support of the Czech Grant Agency.
