Detailed information

Product detailed description

The publication traces the development of progressive Czechoslovak and international art against the background of the life of a society in the period from 1938 to 1989, when there were two totalitarian regimes in Czechoslovakia. The commented sample of artworks from the collections of the the National Gallery Prague is accompanied by photographs capturing the day-to-day life. Political posters and documents are accompanied by contemporary texts and reflections - from Heydrich's speech on the liquidation of the Czechs to the petition Several Sentences. The publication, co-authored by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, covers the period of Nazi and Stalinist violence, the culturally liberating 1960s, and ends with the depressing so-called normalisation of the 1970s and 1980s.
