Detailed information

Product detailed description

The anthology brings responses to the literary work of Maria Majerová in her main creative period. The subtitle of the publication, "From Virginity to Robinson", refers not only to the time frame from her first novel (1907) to her last major literary work (1940), but also suggests Majerová's inclination towards themes of girlhood and the disruption and subversion of gender stereotypes. It is her feminist focus and emphasis on social issues that have been most noted by the literary critics, but their reviews and other responses also contribute to discussions of the meaning and form of tendentious art, the social and communist novel, sexuality and the feminine and masculine principle. The authors of the articles are personalities eather close to Majerová ideologically (Josef Hora, Julius Fučík, F. V. Krejčí) or far away from it (Josef Knap, J. O. Novotný).
