The chronological progression of the Film and History series continues with a fifth volume devoted to the brief (one could perhaps say transitional) period of the second half of the 1980s, referred to in the language of the time as "reconstruction". It´s birth dates back to the accesion of Mikhail Gorbachev (1985) to the top leadership of the Soviet Union and his efforts to introduce reforms. The main question the authors in these series try to answer is "what did the recontruction look like in the socialist Czechoslovakia?". The collection is organized into three more comprehensive sections: The first part traces and presents the situation in the USSR, followed by an excursion into the situation in Czechoslovak feature films, and the final section is devoted to the situation in Czechoslovak television and television production.
